Introduction to Drainage and Waterproofing Sheets

Overview:

1. The water-permeable sheet is a new type of geosynthetic material made by randomly arranged fibers fused into a web-like structure. It features high compressive strength, high pore density, and offers all-around water collection as well as horizontal drainage capabilities.

2. When combined with non-woven geotextiles, the drainage sheet can efficiently collect rainwater that has seeped through the soil cover or wastewater discharged directly from the landfill itself. Thanks to its unique drainage capability, the collected liquid is systematically discharged through the sheet’s interlayer as per engineering specifications—without ever causing clogging or blockages. This prevents potential sliding issues that might arise when the soil cover becomes saturated with water.

3. The permeable sheet material not only drains water but also allows the release of biogas generated from fermentation in the soil (especially in waste materials), making it particularly suitable for use in landfills.

4. When used in combination with HDPE, the water-permeable sheet effectively protects the HDPE membrane from puncture damage.

5. Waterproof Sheet Specifications and Performance: Currently, waterproof sheets are available in widths ranging from 100 cm to 200 cm and thicknesses from 6 cm to 20 cm, with compressive strengths ranging from 80 to 500 kPa. Customized products with different specifications and performance characteristics can also be manufactured according to project requirements.

Method of representation:

Permeable drainage sheets do not have national or industry standards, so there’s no uniform labeling system. Some manufacturers use "RCP" as a prefix symbol, while others opt for the initials of their own company names instead. For instance, take the 7-series sheet RCP-X725D: Here, "RCP" indicates the product’s ring stiffness, "X" refers to the product’s width, "7" denotes the compressive strength grade, "25" stands for the material’s thickness, and "D" specifies that it’s a sheet.

Function of waterproof sheeting:

When combined with nonwoven geotextiles, the drainage sheet can efficiently collect rainwater that has seeped through the soil cover or wastewater discharged directly from the landfill itself. Thanks to its unique drainage capabilities, the collected liquid is systematically discharged through the geotextile mat’s interlayer as per engineering specifications—without ever causing clogging. This prevents potential sliding issues caused by water saturation in the soil cover layer. 2. In addition to draining water, the drainage sheet also allows for the controlled release of biogas generated during the decomposition process within the soil. This makes it particularly well-suited for use in landfill applications. 3. When used in conjunction with HDPE membranes, the drainage sheet effectively protects the HDPE film from punctures, ensuring long-term integrity and performance of the system.

Applications of Waterproof Membranes

The application scope of plastic drainage sheets includes: 1) Reinforced drainage for highway and railway subgrades and shoulders; 2) Drainage systems in tunnels, subway underpasses, and underground storage facilities; 3) Soil and water conservation for hillside terrains and slope development projects; 4) Vertical and horizontal drainage along various retaining walls; 5) Drainage solutions for landslide-prone areas; 6) Drainage management for ash piles at thermal power plants; 7) Drainage systems in sports fields, golf courses, baseball fields, soccer fields, parks, and other recreational green spaces; 8) Drainage for rooftop gardens and flower beds; 9) Construction drainage during building foundation work; 10) Underground irrigation and drainage systems for agricultural and horticultural applications; 11) Drainage systems for low-lying, wetland areas; 12) Drainage during land reclamation and site preparation projects.
