Raw material differences: Waterproof boards are typically made from materials such as HDPE, LDPE, EVA, and PVC—materials known for their long lifespan, resistance to acid and alkali corrosion, and ability to withstand both high and low temperatures. Importantly, these materials do not release harmful substances that could pollute the surrounding environment after use. In contrast, waterproof membranes are primarily composed of synthetic materials like polymer-modified asphalt and highly polymerized asphalt. Under high-temperature conditions, these materials can emit toxic gases, and when buried underground, they may even contaminate groundwater.

They are also frequently employed in sanitary landfills, often combined with geotextiles like long-fiber fabrics and bentonite waterproof blankets.
Waterproof membranes are typically used for waterproofing applications on building roofs, garage rooftops, bathrooms, and architectural foundations, among other areas.
3. Different construction methods: Typically, waterproofing sheet installation requires professional technicians using specialized geomembrane welding machines to carefully weld the seams. After welding, a pressure test is conducted to ensure the waterproof and anti-seepage performance. In contrast, waterproof membrane rolls usually have their seams fused together by melting the material with a heat torch. Once installed, however, these seams cannot be tested—instead, the anti-seepage effectiveness can only be verified by applying water.
