The frictional effect of Chongqing's bidirectional plastic geogrid decreases as the moisture content increases.

Chongqing Bidirectional Plastic Geogrid The production facility explained that after the geogrid is buried in the soil, its strain distribution changes in response to the applied tensile load. Due to the obstruction provided by the transverse ribs and the friction between the longitudinal and transverse ribs, the strain measured at points closer to the front end tends to be higher, while strains on the rear side remain relatively lower. When used with a moisture content of 10.50% and 28.90%, the strain in the Chongqing bidirectional plastic geogrid varies depending on the magnitude of the tensile load applied.

Production staff explained that as the tensile load increases, Bidirectional Plastic Geogrid Strain gradually increases as the moisture content rises, while the frictional interaction between the grating and the longitudinal/transverse ribs weakens. As a result, during the force-transmission process toward the rear, the stress distribution along the longitudinal ribs remains relatively stable. Notably, the obstructive effect of the transverse ribs does not significantly diminish with increasing moisture levels.

Bidirectional Plastic Geogrid The production facility explained that if cohesion is simply attributed to friction between the longitudinal and transverse ribs, while in reality these two mechanisms interact with each other—when the moisture content is low and compaction is insufficient, the transverse ribs provide minimal resistance. However, as moisture levels rise and compaction improves, the transverse ribs begin to exert stronger resistance, enhancing the apparent cohesive force. At the same time, since friction decreases as moisture increases, the apparent coefficient of friction also declines accordingly.
