The 10-cm-thick protective layer material placed atop the geomembrane must be carefully screened to ensure no particles exceed 6 mm in diameter, as larger particles could easily puncture the composite geomembrane. In particular, any sharp rocks, tree roots, or other debris must be thoroughly removed and cleaned. The foundation surface must remain free of localized unevenness. Once the composite geomembrane has been installed, the treated base should be compacted firmly using a tamper or tamping plate to achieve a dense, smooth, and level finish.
