I. Mitigating Reflective Cracking: Reflective cracking occurs when significant displacement near existing concrete pavement joints or cracks induces stress concentrations within the overlying asphalt overlay. This phenomenon encompasses both horizontal movements caused by temperature and moisture fluctuations, as well as vertical shear displacements resulting from traffic loads. The former leads to highly concentrated tensile stresses in the asphalt layer directly above the joints or cracks, while the latter subjects the asphalt overlay above the joints to substantial flexural-tensile and shear stresses.

2.
