(1) Circumferential Drainage Pipe Installation: During the construction of circumferential drainage pipes, the pipes should be installed snugly against the support surface or laid along the water-permeable rock wall. For circumferential pipes, smooth and continuous routing is essential—any unevenness or undulations must be avoided. Each fixing point can be created by cutting leftover edges from waterproof boards into narrow strips approximately 2 cm wide. These strips are then used to securely tie the blind pipes in place, with both ends anchored to the rock surface using steel nails. Note that the nail heads should sit slightly below the initial support surface, and U-shaped clips are recommended for final securing. The spacing between fixing points should be maintained at 50–80 cm along the arch section and 80–100 cm along the sidewalls. 2.1.2 Longitudinal Drainage Pipe Installation: For longitudinal drainage pipes, proper installation requires positioning them at a depth of 20 cm below the inner rail level. After installation, ensure the pipes align precisely with the tunnel’s natural slope to maintain unobstructed drainage flow. The fixing points for longitudinal pipes follow the same method as those used for circumferential drains, with an approximate spacing of 100 cm. Additionally, wrap the drainage pipes with geotextile fabric to prevent cement mortar from infiltrating and blocking the system.
(2) Construction of sidewall drainage pipes. When installing the sidewall drainage pipes, the first step is to properly position the formwork trolley. The trolley must be aligned precisely so that the drainage pipe’s position matches the diameter of its corresponding hole. Securely connect one end of the drainage pipe to the drain line, while the other end is fitted into the pre-drilled opening on the formwork trolley. If water accumulates at the bottom during construction, it should be drained off immediately.
(3) Drainage at the tunnel portal. The complete drainage system also includes top-level drainage facilities, requiring the installation of water-interrupting gutters at the summit. These gutters should be positioned 5–10 meters away from the top of both natural and cut slopes, with the specific slope angle determined based on site conditions—but ideally kept below 3‰ to prevent sediment buildup. Regular inspections are essential to ensure the portal blind ditch system remains unobstructed; if blockages are detected, they must be promptly cleared.
